On This Day: November 21, 1864
Just five months before he was assassinated, President Abraham Lincoln wrote to William Elkin:
“I see in the near future a crisis approaching that unnerves me and causes me to tremble for the safety of my country. As a result of the war, corporations have been enthroned and an era of corruption in high places will follow, and the money power of the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by working upon the prejudices of the people until all wealth is aggregated in a few hands, and the Republic is destroyed. I feel at this moment more anxiety for the safety of my country than ever before, even in the midst of war.”
Adversarial forces to American liberty have existed before and after Lincoln wrote these chilling words. The future of our country has always depended on faithful men and women whose commitment to and sacrifices for America have helped to preserve our Republic for nearly 250 years.
At First Principles, Inc. we believe it is each American’s civic duty to understand the original intent of our founders, to appreciate the high cost of liberty, and to protect our independence as “One Nation Under God.” To assist individuals, families, scholars, and leaders seeking the truth about America’s Christian foundations, First Principles, Inc. has established the Ronald D. Ray Library of American History and the FPP Digital Archive. These 8,000+ books and 40,000+ documents serve as a resource for Americans who want to inform themselves, their representatives, and all those in leadership positions at all levels of American society and government to uphold, support, and defend America’s founding and first principles.
