Henry Ward Beecher (1813-1887) was a prominent Congregational (or Protestant) clergyman and minister, abolitionist, and speaker in the mid to late 19th century. He published many books such as “The Independent” (this was a periodical, as an editor), and “Christian Union” (also a periodical).
